Previewing SIUE vs. Robert Morris (Springfield)

The Eagles are back for more.

SIUE is seeking its first win of the season tonight when Robert Morris (Springfield) comes to the Vadalabene Center at 7 p.m.

You can't discount anyone, but the Cougars should win this one pretty handily. Crazier things have happened in college basketball, and we never know which team will show up.

The Eagles of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association have had a pretty good season thus far. They are 4-1 so far, with wins coming against Rhema Bible College of Oklahoma, Hillsdale Baptist, Great Lakes Christian College and Blackburn College, which we can consider an upset, because RMU-S is a USCAA school and Blackburn is NCAA Division III. Their only loss came to Ecclesa, whoever that school may be.

Robert Morris has shown an ability to score this year. They average more than 88 points per game and scored 106 in their season-opening overtime win against Rhema Bible. The bad news for them: The allow on average 84 points per game. This is Division I.

Those schools aren't quite like SIUe.

That's about all we know. The team's website isn't updated to reflect the new season with the exception of their schedule. There are no cumulative stats.

We did play Robert Morris last year: a 74-40 win at the VC. In fact, the Cougars have met this school each of the last three seasons. SIUE is 8-0 all-time against Robert Morris.

The Eagles return their two leading scorers from that game last year. Trey Davis scored 15 against the Cougars and Anthony Patton, a senior from Gary, Ind. whom I wonder if has ties to David Boarden scored 11.

What to watch for tonight:

Mark Yelovich needs 16 points to pass 19th on SIUE's all-time scoring list.
Can the Cougars take their frustrations out on an inferior opponent?
Can SIUE start fast and maintain that throughout the duration of the game?
Will SIUE run with Robert Morris or try to disrupt their tempo?
Will the Cougars score 100? Last time was Nov. 25, 2008 against Blackburn.
Which SIUE team will we see? The one that flopped and scored 38 at Illinois State or the one that scored 87 against Lipscomb?

Projected starters for the Cougars are the same as usual thus far. Shaffer, Jones, Yelovich, Wickware and Stineman.
