Chatt academically inelligible: and more

I briefly emailed Dr. Hewitt regarding the status of Cornelius Chatt and there will be a story in the Alestle tomorrow on the matter. I will post it once it is out there.

It's really not too much, he confirmed with me Chatt is academically unable to compete, but he did not rule out the possibility of Chatt returning as a student. If that is the case, he still has some of his NCAA eligibility left, and I would assume he could be eligible to return for the spring semester, but his overall status is up in the air. I have yet to confirm whether or not a return is possible.

Chatt led the Cougars scoring 12.1 points per game last season, and while his production will be missed, SIUE should have enough from its newcomers and Mark Yelovich to fill the void in production. Needless to say, Chatt would be a huge mid-season pickup if that is at all possible.

Coach Forrester is out on the recruiting trail right now, so that may be why I have not heard back from him.

A few other notes:

I picked up on Twitter, the Cougars have offers to AJ Riley and Lance Whitaker, so the coaching staff is working hard to try and plug some holes. Riley has also been offered by Drake and SIU Carbondale, while Whitaker has one from Valpo.

@NorthStarBBall tweeted SIUE is currently one of the schools attending the AAU U16 showcase in Orlando.

Here's a funny tweet from @BMDunson: In HS I was a defender, at siue I was strictly a shooter, in juco it was about 3s and hangouts, at ASU it was 3s or splinters. What now? Lol

I don't know, Brandon, but figure out a school and stick with it.

Also, a public service announcement, also sadly Twitter related. I jokingly tweeted at @siuecougars about participating in their golf outing for free. While, of course that isn't happening, my good cousin Beth in marketing at SIUE said she would sponsor me, which is great, because although I am a terrible golfer I love to play. Here is the catch though: They can't just place me on a team. So, if anyone wants to go golfing on Aug. 27 and support a good cause, let me know! I think entry into the scramble is $150 per person, and I would love to get a foursome together. I know us college folks don't have that kind of money quite yet, but if anyone wants to get an eCougarzone.com team together, please leave a comment, tweet me, or submit something on the contact form. It goes straight to my alestlelive.com email. Thanks!
