We really don't know much about tonight's opponent, besides the fact they are from Greenville, Division III and stole UW Milwaukee's logo and added an orange color scheme to it. Those are pretty much the facts. Cougars and panthers tonight at the Vadalabene Center in the "Coaches vs. Cancer game" a great event going on throughout the nation of college basketball. Lennox, the other coaches and myself (Bloggers vs. Cancer?) will be sporting tennis shoes with our suits, so there is going to be a lot of class in the press room following this one. I may have to duck out at halftime to attend to something real quick, but will be there for most of the game, and return. Predictions are not fair, because we do not want to slight our under-matched opponent, so take that for what it is worth.
Here's a brief rundown of what our opponent offers tonight.
Greenville College
Location: Greenville, Illinois
Conference affiliation: SLIAC (NCAA DIII)
Type: Christian/Private
Football? Yes
Record: 10-6 (6-3 SLIAC)
Leading scorer: K.J. Hillard (15.2 ppg)
Leading rebounder: Obinna Agomo (6.9 rpg)
Last time out: 95-84 (W) vs. Blackburn
What to key on: Greenville has scored 90 points seven times this season, including one loss, 102-92 at Asbury. They scored 103 in a win against St. Louis Christian. Greenville can score lots of points, but they allow tons and tons of points. Expect a shootout.
Greenville College men’s basketball is a program that seeks to impact the entire landscape of NCAA Division III basketball through sportsmanship, team unity, and our Christian witness. We wish to be effective with our mission not only regionally, but also both nationally and internationally as we live our lives as men of character. The Greenville College basketball program provides student athletes with the opportunity to grow as young men in a uniquely Christian atmosphere. Here at Greenville, students learn to become great players and men of character both on and off the court.
And this is hilarious.
Live chat again tonight, might be a little in-and-out, but we'll be there. Free long sleeve tees for the students as well in honor of Coaches vs. Cancer. To segway out of that, here is another special video. Can't promise it's as good as the first, but this is Frank Cusumano's story about Edwardsville H.S alum and Northern Kentucky's Dustin Maguire, who started his college career with Brad Soderberg and then Rick Majerus at SLU. It's a very inspirational story, and great reporting. Very fitting for tonight.
And here's a nice article on Dustin from our friends at the Alton Telegraph.
