How many home games might we be looking at? I hope we might have more than last season. Are we looking at an ISU game possibly?

ISU is on the away schedule! I forgot to add that, 16 at home, home docket is official

It was my lucky day. I was able to play ball with almost all the recruits today. I usually play basketball every other day, but today is the only day that I was able to play ball with a lot of the team. I was able to see Abel Tillman, Gerald Jones Jr., Michael Messer, and Cody Wickware. Chatt was not present. Im going to first rate all of them from 1 to 10, 10 being very good.

Abel Tillman(didnt play)-seemed very very under weight. He is lanky to the max and seems to be a decent player, but his weight scares me. He is roughly 6 foot 7. I don't for-see him being as strong as a post player as before. I do believe he will have many blocked shots a game though. I don't think he will be a solid Mark replacement at the moment. He will need to pack on pounds to bump with guys.

Michael Messer-10 FOR SURE How the hell did we manage to get a Mark Yelovich #2. Damn. He will start every game. His game is smooth and he can shoot. He has lengthy arms that allow him to shoot against almost anyone. He has an exact style as Mark. He is not fast, but he has ball moves and can drive. Very good jump shot. He will be a 15 or more pt. scorer a game.

Gerald Jones Jr.-I am a little iffy on rating him at the moment. It seems like he screwed up his hand a little while playing. He has the frame of a soccer player. roughly 6 foot 1. His shot seemed off, but his left hand was in pain. He just played through it. Positives, He seems to have great court awareness. His passing is fast and sometimes too fast for players to set up. I assume he was a passing machine in high-school. He is also one of those quick ball handlers that seems to get down court before anyone else. If his hand was better I would rate him a 7 and a half. He will score in the single digits every game and also have many assists.

Corey Wickware-7 and a half to 8. He is 5 foot 10...11 is stretching it. He shows solid ball handling and good defense for his height. He seems to be an over average jumper and his speed seems average to most pg. He is however a left handed shooter. He can shoot the 3 pretty consistently. I see him scoring 6 ppg roughly. He will be a solid ball handler, but he is not like aamir. Aamir had the spark and drive. It seems like these point guards don't have it.

Cornelius Chatt- I didn't get to see him, but I am severely hopeful of this guy. I would put money on it that he will be a stud.

Probable starters out of all these recruits...Messer and Wickware maybe

Most seem to be off the bench players. The season still looks good. I am still optimistic and aware of how much dead weight we got off the team.

Thanks for the information!! Sounds really promising!

Ok sounds pretty good on everything....Surprised about Messer, Really? Gerald Jones is not much of a shooter so I think hand or not it probably wouldnt have mattered however he can pass the ball, defend, rebound for a small guy, and drive so I think in a couple years he will be ok.....I am not surprised by the Tillman comments I have hinted on here before that I think he may redshirt ( to bulk up and to get his academics inorder).....Wickware I think is a solid get.....I think he can shoot probably better than he did that day....He along with Rincker will probably be our two deep shot potentials...... And BOY do we need to shoot better to succeed......However I am perplexed by Chatt not being there......Did anyone say anything like if he has enrolled? I wonder if he is still finishing classes at JUCO so he can qualify......

Im going to say a little more about the recruits. After thinking about it, I should justify why I believe Messer will be great.(this is for the person above)

I have seen his games streaming on the computer. He was not very impressive to me while watching him. I believe I watched a christmas tourney with his team playing. I thought to myself man what is so impressive with him. He seemed to wait for the plays to come to him.

While at the gym, I got to see why he's impressive. He is a solid body. I thought he looked small on the computer, but man he's built. I actually think he might be bigger than his stats project him. I think hes a little shorter than Mark, but he's got better a basketball structure.

I was closely watching how he played. It was like watching Mark in person. This is why I believe he will make a very big contribution.

He has almost the same driving skills as Mark. He is able to see any open area and exploit it. Second, I have never seen someone that shoots like him. He has almost a fade when he shoots. His arms are soo long that it makes it almost impossible for people to block his shot. I believe Mark can shoot very well, but when it comes to 3's he shoots only when very open. He seems to have a very smooth low releasing shot. This is different from his jumper. Messer seems to have a good high release on both 3's and FG's . This makes me to believe that he will shoot very often and even if someone may be in his face. What Messer is lacking is his ability to rebound like Mark. He is still solid and offers great boxing out skills. This is the kid I believe that will lead us to some good wins. Him and Mark will be a great combo. I didnt believe his hype at first. Believe me on that. I have played ball with David Boarden, Wickware, Messer,Gerald Jones, Barry wellington, John Edminson, Desmond Young and sadly Alex Newlin. I can see talent. I just hope to see him use it in the games.

Also, above poster has asked if Chatt is here in Edwardsville. The answer is yes. I was told by a friend that he is the real deal along with Wickware. If Chatt is legit, we are in good form.

Has anybody seen Tillman play? He was just as skinny as Terrance Williams. I know though that he can dunk with ease. I was told that he's gonna dunk a lot....that is if he plays a lot.

I was not too happy seeing that Gerald Jones seemed more like a soccer player. I would never guess in a million days that he played Division 1 basketball. I think he might become a quick in and out player if he doesn't get his shot calibrated. Its going to take more than passing to keep him in.

Alan, any updates on who Forrester is looking at as a 2nd man in the center...Zeke or DOB. They need to stop playing soft.

Overall, we increased our bench strength tremendously and also added a couple possible starters. I say good job Forrester. Starters hopefully...
1 Mark
2 Bundalow
3 Messer
4 Murphy
5 Rincker

Top bench players..in order
1 Chatt
2 Wickware
3 Mitchell
4 Tillman
5 Boarden

I see something in Mitchell. I know some don't, but he is a quick in and out scorer. He has great potential. I can see it.

Thanks My man (or woman hehe) I appreciate all the insight.....Just a couple of comments....I am going to believe you on Messer (I think he was highly rated so we shall see) ....... However I think Gerald Jones is going to be good Just give it some time (I think I read on a few places that he was a project) I think the center position should be rotated with zeke and dob taking a few blows for Nik.....I eventually hope to see Tillman kind of take over the domination down low (I have seen some tape of him very dominating when he wants) I am surprised you see Chatt and Wickware off the bench.....I think again this year Forrester is going to have a rolling starting 5 (dont know if that is good for the team) What you all think?

Yeah, I feel as if the starting five is going to be a mix and match, don't think there is really going to be a set lineup, just because there are so many different guys on this team who can contribute in different ways (still a weak post team, but the Cougars are looking to be incredibly athletic, and they have depth at the guard positions, and a few guys who can step up at forward)

This may not be a popular opinion, but Stineman is going to get his minutes as a defensive and set-up guy. That being said, I don't think he necessarily has to be a scorer to contribute the more I think about it. I think Stineman is naturally probably the best in-house point guard option outside Wickware and Jones...Crazy, because I am not high on Stineman, but I can see the rationale Forrester is obviously going to have in the future. Stineman can get the ball to guys, he was third on the team in assists, something we didn't really do too much of last year. I think we were out-assisted 20 something to six on a few occasions. That is going to be important and we need to do a better job distributing the ball to find open looks. Too often our guys just stand around on offense, need a little bit more motion. Anyways, Stineman's job at the point is to run plays and get the ball to our guys who can cut to the basket, and there are a hell of a lot of them.

Still, I would rather see the new guys get the chance, and I remember coach saying earlier this summer something like every position is up for grabs and he is going into it with an open mind, that makes me think we are going to see many different variations on the court. Love to see LeShaun log some more minutes, and hopefully some of the bigs have hit the gym this offseason (and hopefully Mav got an eye test, because his coordination is completely goofy.)

To the anonymous comment six (we're friendly here, we can use names!) Completely agree on Mitchell, I know he has been working hard in the off-season too. And if Boarden is the fifth best bench player, we have a hell of a bench!

And yeah, the dude (or chick ;) above me got to it first, Chatt is here, at basketball camp coach told me everyone was on campus and accounted for taking summer classes.

Anyways, glad you guys are here talking Cougar basketball, 699 days left in the transition, we'll be here all year!

Allan

Well I've been posting as anonymous not on purpose. I didn't see the name option. I have been posting info on the recruits. I'll keep posting if I play ball again with these guys. Hopefully we can get 100's of fans on here talking about cougar athletics.
